With Digital Membrane Chromatography (DMC), i3 Membrane takes protein purification to a new level—gentle, efficient, and digitally controlled. This innovative process is revolutionizing established membrane chromatography, which previously required additional elution steps involving acids or salts. DMC replaces these through the application of a low voltage of up to 2 volts, thereby gently releasing proteins from the membrane without harsh elution conditions.
This results in stable, intact molecules that can be used immediately – “Purification at the push of a button”. With this, i3 Membrane is establishing a new concept for research and bioprocess development, particularly in the production of modern active substances such as monoclonal antibodies, antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), and gene therapies.
“With DMC, we’re bringing chromatography into the digital age,” says Dr. Stephan Brinke-Seiferth, CEO of i3 Membrane GmbH. “Researchers and companies save valuable time and resources – and gain new opportunities in analysis and process development.”
The first generation of DMC membrane adsorbers is already available and ideally suited for early-stage process development and research applications in both academic and industrial settings. Additional variants for high-throughput processes and larger-volume products will be available in 2026.
With Digital Membrane Chromatography, i3 Membrane is setting another milestone on the path toward simpler, more efficient, and more sustainable biotechnological processes – Transforming Purification for a new era.
