Non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) are gaining increasing attention worldwide. Their environmental persistence, rising incidence of disease, and particular relevance in healthcare facilities make them a growing challenge in infection prevention.

Our new animated video highlights key aspects of NTM, from microbiological fundamentals and environmental reservoirs to transmission routes and patient risks.

The film explains why drinking water systems play a central role, which factors promote NTM growth, and why conventional disinfection measures are often insufficient.

The aim is not only to raise awareness of these often underestimated environmental germs among healthcare professionals – with a particular focus on hygiene aspects –but also to emphasize the importance of a multi-barrier infection prevention strategie.
