    Hands-on workshop on microplastic analysis

Live sample preparation | Exchange | Practical knowledge

There is hardly a place in the world that is still free of microplastics.

Particles smaller than 5 millimeters—often invisible to the naked eye—are now found in water, food, cosmetics, and throughout the entire food chain. The risks to humans and the environment have only been researched to a limited extent so far. This makes reliable filtration, safe identification, and reproducible analysis all the more important.

On Tuesday, March 17, 2026, we cordially invite you to an exclusive hands-on workshop on microplastic analysis in Geesthacht—with a clear focus on practical application, exchange, and concrete solutions.

Understanding analytics. Applying methods. Discussing results.

In small working groups, you will carry out various sample preparations live and discuss the results directly on site with experts. The focus will be on typical challenges in the analysis of different matrices:

    • Mineral water
    • Food & beverage
    • Cosmetics

Together, we identify critical process steps, discuss suitable filtration strategies, and evaluate analytical requirements—from particle enrichment to spectroscopic identification (e.g., FTIR, Raman, LDIR).

    Why this workshop is special

Metal-coated track-etched filters, for example, offer optimal conditions for microplastic analysis: aluminum-coated polyester membranes produce excellent reflection for FTIR and Raman analyses and also serve as a conductive substrate for SEM analyses (EDX/WDX). Different pore sizes enable the targeted filtration of a wide variety of particle sizes.

But theory alone is not enough. Practical implementation is crucial—and that’s exactly where this workshop comes in.
    You will receive:

    • Specific practical knowledge on sample preparation
    • Classification of analytical challenges in different matrices
    • Exchange on equal terms with users and professional colleagues
    • Directly applicable insights for your everyday work

    When? – Tuesday, March 17, 2026, 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Where? – GITZ GmbH (HEREON), Max-Planck-Straße 1, 21502 Geesthacht, Germany

The number of participants is deliberately limited in order to enable intensive work and individual exchange. The main language of the workshop will be German.

Secure your place now and play an active role in shaping microplastic analysis!
